About 35 undergraduate and graduate students attended last week to “A Short Course on Parallel Computing” dictated by the academic Prof. Mahadevan Ganesh (Colorado School of Mines, United States) and organized by the Mathematical & Computational Engineering Program.

The main objective of this course was to provide a general introduction to the state of the art of parallel computing. Engineering and scientific computing has an insatiable demand for high-performance calculations. Parallel computing provides tools to overcome the demand to some extent, in conjunction with computer hardware development and parallel computing environments.

Students learned the basics on how to design and implement parallel algorithms in such cluster computer environments. “The content is useful for several PUC students because it has applications in almost all areas of applied sciences and engineering”, said Prof. Ganesh.

The realization of this activity is part of the “Convenio de Desempeño PUC 1202”.
